Teresa Sherling was born and raised in a small town in southern Oklahoma. She, along with her family, lived on her grandparents’ farm where she learned at an early age the art of working with needle and thread by watching her patient grandmother. For Teresa, sewing feels as natural as breathing and the joy of creating something from nothing is an exhilarating challenge. It wasn’t until many years later that she realized sewing and quilting were outlets for her creative spirit. She made her first quilt in 2000 and thereafter joined the Denton Quilt Guild in 2001. It was there that she discovered her true talent and passion for quilt-making and her unquenchable thirst for quilts of all types. However, with a large family and a full-time career as a paralegal there wasn’t much time to quilt. She retired from her career in 2006, and with encouragement from her family Teresa became a full-time professional quilter in 2007 and started a business partnership with her long-time friend and fellow guild member, Barb McCraw.
She enjoys making quilts for various local charities and she lectures and teaches nationwide, specializing in being the quilt trivia and history buff which her students really enjoy.
She and her husband make their home in Denton, Texas. They are the proud parents of five children who, along with numerous pets, keep their household a lively and fun place to be!
Teresa’s many accomplishments include:
*Having several works juried into exhibits with the Greater Denton Arts Council.
*Becoming a ribbon winner with “My First Baltimore Album” quilt which was entered into the Master’s Category of Traditional Appliqué at the Dallas Quilt Show. This quilt demonstrates the expertise she has achieved in hand appliqué.
*Her art quilt, “Big Bang(s) Theory”, was featured in a beauty industry magazine and has been shown around the DFW metroplex.
*Participated, along with friends, in making the "Denton County Historical Building Quilt" which won a blue ribbon at the Dallas Quilt Show and was thereafter donated to the local historical museum.
